A Brave New World Wide Web

I was recently going through some resources I have seen in the past, and came across this Teacher Tube link. In thinking about the work we will do next week with Google Tools and technology in my own classroom, clips like this one validate the work I am already doing and inspire me to think about how to engage students and motivate them as I grow and change as their teacher. What motivates you as an educator to incorporate technology in the school community? Changing my perspective and lens has made a difference for me!

  1. Be Brave.... that is how what I am contemplating right now and what I feel I have to be. I'm feeling a bit behind the learning curve with the Google technology and while I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the different parts and pieces, I am excited about all the cool new things I am learning about. It is almost like opening a whole new door to learning and opportunities not only for students but for teachers as well. It is like we are all learning together. To answer your question in regards to what motivates and educator to incorporate technology in the school community... I think it is motivation itself.
Technology provides motivation for students. It is a medium they understand, want to engage in, and will use willingly. I think when teachers start to see this in action they want to do more of it. I also think, teachers themselves become hooked on the new learning and exploration. Thanks for sharing the video. It is a good reminder of all that is out there!

  2. As we are learning, not only is technology providing motivation for students to learn, but it is the way kids are learning. We need to incorporate technology into everything we do with students. I recently started using short videos with students in writing, and then giving them a prompt to go with the video. Students are incredibly motivated to do this, as long as the videos are short and interesting (no more than 3 or 4 minutes). There is one website that I use all the time, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is (maybe Teach Hub). I also use Teacher Tube and Discovery Education.

Anything on the iPad motivates kids.

    I've started using Glogster.

    Digital Storytelling.

Interviewing people in the community with video cameras and presenting the information to the class in some creative way.

I was involved in a class that had a class wiki, and students did work in small groups on it, as well as post homework at night and communicate information with their parents.

It is a good reminder for us because we need to dive into the technology world with our students, whether everyone is ready or not!
